▎精油简介
多香果又称众香果、西班牙甘椒、牙买加胡椒、多香果辣椒和玉桂子,是桃金孃科多香果属的一种植物,这种常绿植物原产于印度西部和美洲南部,高可达10m,树型与大小和月桂树颇为相似,干燥未成熟的果实与叶子可以做为香料使用,每个果实含有两个肾形的绿色种子,当果实成熟时种子为黑色,并变得光滑,树皮会剥落,由于果实具有丁香、胡椒、肉桂、肉荳蔻等多种香料的味道,所以被称为多香果。牙买加为主要产地,另外危地马拉、宏都拉斯以及墨西哥也都有。牙买加生产的多香果由于含油量高,被认为是质量最好的多香果。
多香果精油是以叶片或果实为原料,采用蒸汽蒸馏法提取的,也有少量精油是从浆果树脂中提取的,浆果在完全成熟之前采集,因为当它们充分成熟时挥发油含量会降低,其颜色为淡黄色,气味温和、清新、辛辣。
在欧洲人到加勒比海之前,当地人用作香料,多香果现在用来做许多熟悉的调味汁和佐料的配料。哥伦布当年为了寻找胡椒而航行出海,在加勒比海地区发现了多香果,由于哥伦布并未看过真正的胡椒果实,他认为多香果就是胡椒,并且将多香果带回西班牙,在当时称多香果为“pimienta”,“pimienta”是西班牙语胡椒的意思,多香果的另一个英语名称“pimento”就是由西班牙语“pimienta”转变而来的。多香果中有含有丁子香酚的挥发油,这种物质有抑菌的作用,因此也可用来制作除臭剂。
